The Giant Defy is aimed at the endurance/sportive rider. Engineered to be comfortable over longer distances whilst remaining both efficient and fast. The Giant Defy comes with a slightly shorter top tube than the equivalent TCR’s and have slightly taller head tubes to take away some of the pressures from your hips/lower back. Adapted in 2015 to really hone in comfort – the new Defy comes in three options and the Defy Advanced Pro 1 is right up there in the range.

Its innovative technologies include a D-Fuse composite seatpost and Contact SLR D-Fuse composite handlebar. These integrated cockpit components work as a system to add compliance and reduce road shocks and vibrations.

The Advanced-grade composite frame is also integrated for disc brakes, with flat-mount disc brake tabs and 12mm front and rear thru-axles, plus clearance for high-volume tyres up to 35c. Though the bike already comes fitted with Giant’s own 32c as standard. The oversized and tapered OverDrive 2 steerer tube boosts cornering precision, while the MegaDrive down tube and PowerCore bottom bracket deliver precise handling and class-leading pedaling efficiency.
Advanced Carbon Composite frame is specifically engineered for endurance road riding delivering a smoother ride quality and less fatigue on long rides. The D-Fuse seat post and handlebar system work seamlessly with the frame to absorb road shocks and vibrations. Each bike in the category has it’s own way of dealing with the rocky terrain, similar to the Future Shock that you see on the Specialised Roubaix, Giant’s technology is certainly a good option.
Seamless disc brake integration including flat mounts and 12mm front and rear thru-axles produces more consistent braking power for better control even in wet weather and on rough roads. We’re huge fans of disc brakes and the Giant bikes have been carefully designed to be agile even in the most technical conditions.
Endurance road geometry added tyre clearance (up to 35c) and disc-brake integration allow you to tackle a variety of roads and conditions from smooth tarmac to rugged country lanes and mountain passes. This is great for if you’re planning on an all road adventure.
SRAM Force eTap AXS™ offers the key features of RED eTap AXS – modern gearing, advanced chain management, and easy personalization, without the all out cost of the SRAM Red eTap. Syncing with the AXS app, riders can see batter status, get maintenance reminders and change the behaviour of the components. The new 12 speed technology has been a huge hit from the off.

The Verdict:
The Giant Defy Advanced Pro 1 really starts to blur the lines between the performance and comfort scene. Slacker geometries mixed with all the top end features we love on race bikes. There’s not a lot this bike won’t do, designed to keep up in the bunch but keep things smooth when the going gets rough. The Giant Defy Advanced Pro 1 is ready to take whatever you throw at it.
