Based in Halfiax, West Yorkshire, the Orange mountain bike company have been making high quality bikes for over 30 years. Established in 1988 they’ve held the downhill world cup championship on both the men’s and women’s side. It’s no surprise that the Orange Clockwork Evo is right at the top of it’s class.

The more expensive frames are still made over in Halifax, whereas the cheaper bikes are now important from Taiwan. The Orange Clockwork range has grown into more of a family than a solitary model. A family of bikes where capability is key. These siblings bring different rolls to their functional heritage. Available in the Comp and the Evo, the clockwork is continuously a great seller.

The Features:

The new Clockwork EVO sits between the Clockwork and the Crush, firmly hitting a sweet spot for serious-minded riders. While the Clockwork is far from sedate, the Crush is a full-gas aggressive hardtail. The Clockwork EVO is the hard tail to fill that gap – fast and furious. Designed in Britain but made in Taiwan, don’t let that put you off this high quality bike. The custom butted 6061-T6 aluminium frame also comes with a five-year frame warranty to keep you confident in it’s durability.

10mm longer in the top tube and a degree slacker in the head angle than the Clockwork, the Clockwork EVO gives the cockpit reach and attitude of a fast serious trail bike. A RockShox Revelation RC 130mm 27.5 Boost Fork comes with 130mm of travel.

The frame features neat external routing that tucks the cables neatly under the top tube. The Clockwork EVO’s Kore 150mm dropper post keeps you comfy throughout the ride and adds some extra agility to the handling. You can even fit an internal dropper seatpost if you want an extra edge while you’re out riding. A 12x148mm quick release bolt-thru rear axle bolsters up the back end, keeping everything steady through the rough stuff.

A Race Face/Shimano SLX 1 x 11spd drive train unlocks all the terrain you’d need with the Clockwork Evo. Don’t let the climbs hold you back. The Kore Realm 2.7 tubeless ready wheel set rolls nicely over any terrain.

Verdict:

This bike makes a great 27.5″ companion without a huge price tag. Available as a demo bike in some places, you can even try before you buy. With a lot of the features from the new Clockwork EVO S, it’s definitely worth your time!
