With Specialized 2FO still being the go to shoe in the flat shoe mountain bike market, we were excited to see the new release. The Specialized 2FO Roost comes with both flat and clip options. Don’t be fooled by the relaxed aesthetic of the new shoe, they’re packed full of great features from the Californian brand.
If you’re looking for a versatile MTB shoe that can transition from hot laps in the park to cold beers at the base without missing a step, then look no further.
The 2FO Roost Clip brings a casual, relaxed vibe with all the right DNA to get sendy on the bike. It combines a durable leather and textile upper, cushioned EVA foam midsole and relaxed fit last that can stand up to the rigors of daily trail use without sacrificing off-the-bike comfort and style.
Last but not least, a 3rd generation SlipNot rubber sole delivers confident traction on and off the trail. Body Geometry features in the shoe to increase performance and comfort, and the traditional foam padding in the upper has been replaced with Xpel Airmesh to make it lighter weight.
Both the 2FO Roost clip and flat are engineering to be stiff enough to support you for a long day in the saddle, but offer enough flexibility for the afternoon in the coffee shop or any hike-a-bike sections you might encounter. This is achieved with a Stiff LollipopTM nylon composite plate for that high performance pedalling and off-the-bike comfort.
The new generation of rubber is also designed to feel consistent at a variety of temperatures from the sea-side sun to the freezing mountain peaks.
The new lug pattern has been designed to help the shoe wear consistently across the foot, meaning that any hot-spots or significant areas of wear should be reduced. This will reduce overall wear off the bike too so that the shoe is much longer lasting.
Body Geometry sole construction and footbeds are ergonomically designed and scientifically tested to boost power, increase efficiency, and reduce chance of injury by optimizing hip, knee, and foot alignment. There is a longitudinal arch, varus wedge, and a metatarsal button. The varus wedge (found in both models) is a 1.5mm increase in thickness on the inside of the shoe at the forefoot. This will help to stop the forefoot from collapsing at all.
The cleat slot has been extended in length to 4mm so that there is a more rearward cleat set up option should you wish to use it. It’s a standard two-bolt cleat pattern to fit all major mountain pedals.
Already one of the best sellers in the flat shoe department, Specialized have pushed the limits again of their 2FO Roost. We’re a big fan of the new shoe and can’t wait to get our hands on more stock. If you’re looking for an all round flat shoe that’s versatile in all situations, the 2FO Roost should definitely be in your list!
