First introduced in 2017, Specialized claim the new Turbo Kenevo is the most capable eMTB you can find. A radical new design for 2020 brings the Turbo Kenevo back with a vengeance.

Specialized’s Turbo Kenevo Comp model pairs all that technology with a smart mix of components that’ll withstand the most demanding conditions and riders. With the rise of the E-bike going from strength to strength, Specialized have seen fantastic success with the Turbo Levo and more recently the Turbo Creo. It’s no surprise they’re releasing new bikes to challenge and change the market as we know it.

It’s not hard to see that the Turbo Kenevo has seen some major changes in its latest revamp. In fact, the only things that haven’t changed are the name and the wheel size. Though the bike is only slightly lighter than it’s predecessor, it’s far more capable.

The Frame:

The new Kenevo gains a lower-slung Sidearm-style chassis and more aggressive geometry, this knocks some weight off the frame. A 2° steeper seat tube angle offers a much better climbing position. And like the new Enduro the Kenevo features an axle path and suspension that give you the smoothest fastest ride over the roughest possible terrain. It all adds up to a bike that offers a lot more control on the rough terrain.

The Motor:

The Kenevo’s Specialized 2.1 motor amplifies your pedaling input by a mind blowing 410%. And as for range our 500-watt hour battery provides you with plenty of range. The battery is seamlessly integrated inside the frame and is easily removed in seconds with a single hex wrench. It’s certainly one of the smoothest & most powerful motors on the market. Whats more, the Mission Control App can handle battery management automatically ensuring your battery will last as long as you need it to. More power. More miles per ride. More awesome?

The Suspension:

Marzocchi Bomber CR coil-sprung shock offers 180mm of plush suspension as well as adjustable low-speed compression and rebound damping to help you dial in the ride to your style and terrain. This keeps things really smooth when the descents get gnarly. The single crown front fork also provides 180mm of controlled suspesnion. Features include a proven FOX GRIP damper and EVOL air spring. Simple reliable and absolutely capable of swallowing any rock or root that comes your way.

Specialized gave the Turbo Kenevo a more rearward axle path that reduces rear wheel “hang-up” on big rocks and roots. Less hang-up equals more momentum, control, and speed. The wheels have switched to downhill rims with a narrower 28mm internal width. This comes with 2.6in tyres instead of the original 2.8. Designed for the most difficult terrain you can find, it reflects the whole attitude of the new bike.

The Verdict:

This bike will take you back in time. Not in the weight of the bike, but back to when you felt like your legs could go on forever. It’s aggressive down the hills but more controlled than any e-bike we’ve ridden. The motor replaces the need for an uplift and you can have endless fun (until the battery goes). We’d recommend looking more into this awesome machine.
